Lovely Little Girls

Well, it has happened.

We now have a theatrical, RIO-inspired Zolo group in the USA. The Lovely Little Girls meet the 20-year cycle head-on with a fantastically Euro-styled art rock cabaret that wouldn’t be out of place on Rec-Rec.  Their sound and their playing are spot on. The imagery is a little dark for my tastes, but they can look however they like as long as they keep making this music:

Zany Liquid TV Shorts

Totally bonkers proto-Bevis & Butthead mania with driving synth soundtrack:

Cut UP Camera!

From the genius Mark Beyer (who did record covers for Snakefinger and Ptose, among other Zoloz):

Toni Basil – Little Red Book

I had no idea there was a video for my long favorite Toni Basil cover of Bacharach’s “Little Red Book”. Great Zolo version of the song!

Yip-Yip Serve a Candy Dinner

This post on my pals Yip-Yip is long overdue. They are a duo from Orlando (area) Florida who have been making warped instrumental toons for several years now. Lately their sound has taken on a distinct whimsical progressive quality that often bears wonderfully Zolo results. Please visit their website and myspace page to sample their highly unique and zany sounds.

Just When You Think You’ve Seen It All – pt. 5

The first single from INXS (non-LP) has a great Zolo-Wavo feel:

Rarely would I post a rap video here, but the set in the vid below has that Pee-Wee’s Playhouse meets Kenny Scharf Zolo style (the song is pretty great too):

Lucrate Milk

Sorry I was gone so long…..

Ah, yes. Lucrate Milk.

I’ve been meaning to post about them for a while now. Finding this video pushed me to act:

They look like tough punks but make pretty zany weird Zolo music along the lines of Etron Fou Leloublon and the best stuff by Essential Logic. And they are French, if you haven’t noticed.
Liste to more songs on the band’s myspace page or visit their homepage (nsfw).
